Love of Reading

“A well-composed book is a magic carpet on which we are wafted to a world that we cannot enter in any other way.”
― Caroline Gordon

As a child I had constant dark circles under my eyes from reading all night or at least until I could no longer keep my eyes open. My mother took me to several doctors when I was a toddler because I rarely slept. My parents and grandparents say I was an easy child, but I just wouldn’t sleep. I’m guessing I was curious and didn’t want to miss anything. The doctors told her to keep me busy during the day and give me books at bedtime. So she kept me busy. I played all day and then in the evenings the puzzles would come out and she would time me putting them together. Then, at age 3, I learned to read. Age 5 is about the time the dark circles show up in my childhood pictures. J  I wanted to know everything. Even if it was just how the story ended. Sleep could wait. You’ll still find a revolving stack of books, magazines, and a good reading lamp beside my bed. Thankfully, I now sleep around 8 hours a night and the dark circles are gone, but I occasionally, still enjoy an all-night reading session. Like last night...and one night last week. I love to read. ;)

Wow, it's now 2012!

Wow! I stumbled upon my old posts. So long ago. ;)
We've moved to Austin and my little Ava is starting Kindergarten at the end of August. I'm excited to  have more time to write and explore around Austin.
So much has changed and so much hasn't. I should start posting here, but I write for myself and I like actually writing on paper.

Things that made me happy today ~ warm summer rain, kayaking down a cold river, and Texas bbq sandwiches with cold, crisp pickles!
